Painters drop cloth is a budget friendly tool that can be made into large calibration art. Yous don't accept to be an creative person to do this and I'll share some tips on how to create a big scale beach art painting.
My Inspiration – Body of water Meets Heaven
A visit to Sanibel Island where nosotros had been dozens of times over the years to visit my husband's parents e'er inspires me. The sky meets the ocean and the sunsets are spectacular and inspiring! So I decided to attempt and capture what I saw this evening in my own fashion past making large scale fine art on a canvas drop cloth. A painters tarp is non just handy for covering and protecting. I have used sail driblet cloths in sewing projects similar curtains, pillows and slipcovers, once made a painters tarp floor fabric and now a painting!
Rescuing Junk
I remembered this frame that was in the storage shed on the side of the firm. Information technology was originally in a big carton of an appliance or something that my hubby ordered for his construction business and when I saw it about to get into a dumpster I grabbed it for hereafter utilize. I wasn't really certain what I would do with it, and then I stuck it in the shed for what turned out to be an ah-ha serendipitous moment.

Projection Instructions
With frequent projects around our habitation I have a stack of painters drop material pieces that are at the fix for anything! I found one that is just the right size in my pile in the garage, and then I grabbed a canvas driblet-fabricand cut it to size. My painters tarp was used and was soft from several washings. If you lot are doing any project with with canvass I recommend that yous launder it showtime. You tin can also bleach sail, which you lot'd probably want to exercise if using for a finished project like drop textile curtains.
I left a few inches on all sides when cutting to allow for wrapping on the stretcher confined. If y'all have wrinkles in your sheet after washing, y'all tin steam or iron them out. My new washer and dryer both have a steam just setting which such a time saver for a projection similar this! Read more here My Fashionable Functional Laundry Room Reveal. There is also a terrific spray that you lot can use to remove wrinkles and you lot'll discover that HERE.
Next I pulled it as tight every bit I could and with my staple gun I went at information technology to the frame from the dorsum, tucking the corners. Thankfully I studied fine art in college and did most of my ain sail stretching then the tricks were still embedded in my encephalon. Kind of like riding a bike!
Now nosotros are prepare, simply drop-cloths tend to exist porous and it needed to be whiter for my painting. I gave it a prissy thick coat of Liquitex Gesso and let it dry. One of my almost pop posts shows some other use for gesso and you lot tin detect that Here.
You tin can use either acrylic craft paints, oil based creative person paints or watercolor paints on the sheet, once you've sealed with gesso. Watercolor paints won't work well on their own, but you lot can add together a few drops to some gesso every bit a tint. *TIP* Don't forget to use a drop cloth when painting your drop material!! You'll desire to protect your surface.
Non sure that I'm completely finished and I might add some more texture, but I'm loving the nice summer look that it gives the room!
